From the ReUse Institute
A Division of The ReUse People of America
The ReUse People of America (TRP) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 environmental organization whose mission is to reduce the solid waste stream and change the way the built environment is renewed by salvaging building materials and distributing them for reuse.
Since 1993, architects, contractors, building owners, as well as local, state and federal governments have relied on TRP to keep reusable and recyclable building materials out of overburdened landfills. Each time a building is deconstructed, TRP is able to salvage up to 80 percent of the materials and channel them back into the marketplace through donations and sales at retail outlets. These services are among the first steps in the green-building process.
The ReUse Institute (TRI) is the consulting and training division of TRP. TRI develops and delivers training programs for contractors and deconstruction workers, and is the first and only organization in the U.S. to certify its graduates as industry-ready.
In addition to contractor training and basic deconstruction training for workers, TRI offers “train the trainer” courses that enable organizations to qualify in-house personnel to offer classes using TRI copyrighted materials.
In California, the TRI 14-day deconstruction-training course has been accredited by the State of California, Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and is offered through the Vocational Technical School of Los Angeles.
TRI has trained dozens of demolition, general building and remodeling contractors as well as hundreds of their workers in the art and science of deconstruction and building-materials salvage. Clients include:
• California Conservation Corps
• The Kankakee, Illinois Corrections Department
• Muncie, Indiana, in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and the County of Delaware
• Metropolitan Community College, Independence, Missouri.
• The City of Chicago
• The County of San Mateo, California
